In the shadow of the international conference Women Deliver, local grassroots organizations take center stage in Vancouver, British Columbia

May 31, 2019 – Vancouver, British Columbia

Feminists Deliver is a grassroots collaboration of British Columbia-based self-identified women, girls, non-binary and Two Spirit people and the organizations that support them that have come together, on account of the 2019 Women Deliver Conference taking place in Vancouver,  to shed a light on the urgent issues facing marginalized communities in B.C. and build connections between grassroots feminists in BC and those working globally by hosting a four-day conference and tradeshow from June 3 – 6, 2019.

“The tremendous work and effort that goes into healing, strengthening to create a more just and equitable world happens largely outside of the conscious of the mainstream and outside of the colonial systems.” said Rhiannon Bennett, Hummingbirds Rising.  “These organizations and these grassroots workers bear the brunt of budget cuts and budget adjustments as they are the human expense to large scale policy decisions.”

From keynotes, to panel presentations, to film and performances, Feminists Deliver will bring together 350 people from Canada, B.C. and Metro Vancouver to engage, critique, learn, deepen inspiration and to redress historical, legal, social and cultural oppression.

“We believe that change comes from the grassroots and that the people most impacted by intersecting forms of oppression must be key actors in all conversations that engage their interests.” said Angela Marie MacDougall, Executive Director, Battered Women’s Support Services.  “We share a concern over the exclusion of grassroots feminist voices in Canada’s and global women’s agenda and through Feminists Deliver, we seek to make connecting grassroots struggles a key priority for regional and global women’s agenda.”

Feminists Deliver conference program is developed with input from over 40 organizations with input from over 100 individuals.  Conference programming to feature leading thinkers, organizers and advocates working on the front lines of climate, environmental, gender based violence, Indigenous, immigration, reproductive and housing justice in Canada.  Tradeshow elements include 25 local social enterprise and artisans.

“Central City Foundation believes in supporting community-led solutions. That’s why we are so excited to co-convene the Feminists Deliver conference – an unprecedented gathering of grassroots women’s and  community organizations to further gender equity.” Jennifer Johnstone, President & CEO, Central City Foundation

Feminists Deliver conference and tradeshow is at 312 Main located at 312 Main Street in Vancouver, British Columbia.
